San José del Cabo
Unlike its more tourist-oriented neighbor Cabo San Lucas, San José del Cabo is a city of sophisticated charms, and it retains a great deal of Spanish colonial character. The downtown area boasts historic architecture, such as the 18th century Misión de San José del Cabo Anuiti, and the 19th century City Hall, whose courtyard features murals depicting Baja life in previous eras. Nature lovers will enjoy the Wildlife Estuary, and aficionados of fine art and fine dining can explore the historic art district, with its chic galleries and upscale restaurants.

San Jose del Cabo has many great activities options, from the Thursday night Art Walk tour that provides vacationers with an excellent introduction to the many downtown galleries, to outdoor pursuits that take advantage of the area's natural beauty. The zipline tours by Canopy Costa Azul Xtreme combine scenic views with hair-raising thrills, as visiting adventurers take in spectacular ocean views while racing high above the canyon floor. Walks along the Wildlife Estuary are also popular, particularly with bird watchers and those interested in the local flora and fauna.
Eat
Cabo San Lucas may have a more active nightlife scene, but San Josè del Cabo boasts a superior fine dining landscape. The city's new generation of talented chefs has helped to redefine Baja cuisine, from Drew Deckman's ever-changing seafood-influenced menus to Tadd Chapman's Mexican-accented fusion dishes at Habanero's. Other local highlights include Jacques Chretien's French Riviera Restaurant and Bakery, with its pastries, chocolates, and continental fine dining atmosphere, and Jacobo Turquie's La Panga Antigua, which features a lovely colonial-style courtyard and contemporary Mexican cuisine.
Party
Capes neighbor San Lucas boasts rowdier nightlife, but San Jose del Cabo is home to many excellent late-night options, from beachfront standouts like Zipper's to salsa dancing at Deckman's and other local supper clubs. Perhaps the most famous of the city's offerings is the original incarnation of Baja's only microbrewery, Baja Brewing Company. Visitors can sample their superb array of craft beers, which include bottled treasures like Cabotella, and seasonal drafts such as Escorpion Negro.
Stay
Playa Hotelera, or Hotel Beach, is rimmed with many of San José del Cabo's all-inclusive resorts, but in addition to its many luxurious lodgings with spectacular Sea of Cortez views and private beach access, the city also has many boutique hotels and value-oriented accommodations. Barcelo Palace Deluxe is one of the best of the large seaside resorts, with lush appointments and high-end amenities. Some of the area's most incredible fine dining restaurants are located on-site at intimate and upscale boutique hotels such as Mi Cocina at Casa Natalia, and 7 Seas Seafood Grille at Cabo Surf Hotel.
Shop
In addition to its many eclectic art galleries, the city is also rich in traditional Mexican arts and crafts. Plaza Artesanos, situated near San José del Cabo's historic district, is home to over 75 vendors selling bags, blankets, ceramics, and other handmade creations from some of the country's premier craftsmen. Visiting shoppers will also want to check out Las Tiendas de Palmilla. Located in Los Cabos' most exclusive enclave, this upscale mall hosts shops featuring everything from art and antiques to jewelry and resort wear.
